I reached for my desk calendar. March page was torn off. I was whining why would anyone tear the page when we're still in the middle of march. I was told the MD needed the calendar. I said "really he has to rip march page just so he can look at it? what's wrong with just looking at it ?" my colleague said, " no my dear he needed to look at April page so he ripped march page!!" really??

Last week he handed us an Rx pad with meds written on it, as it was given to the patient, she noticed at the lower left hand side, a "teeny tiny greenish mung bean sized B__ger!!! ewww!!! really? I dont know wether to flick it or what!!! pt needed the narcs so bad he didn't mind :) ewww!!!

Tragedy Strikes

Received a very sad news yesterday. A former colleague of mine and her family was in a fatal head-on-collision crash on their way back from spring break. Her husband and youngest son 10 y/o was killed on the spot and her and eldest son 12 y/o is in critical condition, with multiple severe internal injuries & 60% burn, both of the vehicles caught on fire right on collision. She is now at a hospital in New Mexico and her son is in Utah.
This tragedy made an impact on me and crushed my heart as I learned about this. Life is short, and we don't know when our time is up. It is very important to always make every second, every moment count, at work, at school, at home. Tell your love ones how much they mean to you and always do good in anything you do, when that time comes there will be no turning back.
When I heard about this I just want to hug my husband & kids tight and tell them how much I love them. I thank the Lord for each day that I wake up and see my family's face, sleeping quietly and safe, ... unharmed. Seeing tragedies like this opens up your eyes and heart to the many blessings, big and small, that otherwise we tend to overlook and ignore. I appreciate life more and the people around me, good or bad. I pray for my colleague and her son, for a speedy physical, mental & emotional recovery.

Pain Blocks etc..

Worked last Wednesday to my other gig pain mngt, circulating assisting with pain mngt procedures. Boy I have to say I worked with Mr Hyde that day. It doesn't take much to make that doc ticked! He was very frustrated he couldn't get the shots he wants, as soon as he he couldn't see the image he wants, needles were flying bouncing off the walls into the sharps container. I usually give him the meds he needed by loading it into a separate syringe and giving it to him under sterile technique. He knows our routine, he holds still I do maneuver of shooting my needle into his sterile syringe, he tapped my needle about three times and when it wouldn't go in, he sighed and rolled his eyes, leaned on the wall and watched me impatiently as I do our usual ritual, I swear he was acting like a 3 year old!! It was funny to watch because he gets so frustrated about the simplest thing, he was flying off the handle so fast!! And it didn't end there, next we have this patient who was about 379#s, even the longest needle I have didn't even reach where he needed it. He was short like 1.5" to the spot, well that didn't help his bipolar mood, he continues to channel his frustration to the gauze, needles & syringes, you can hear him slam it to the table throwing things around in frustration, throwing his head back, throwing his hands up in the air and rolling his eyes, he really acts like his got some psyche issues, I think he needs to increase his meds if he is talking any in order to handle simple stress like that. Why did I say he might be bipolar? Because after each procedure before he exits the O.R. he'll say to the patient, "good job, you did well" and in between procedure while we are prepping for the next one he'll pop his head in the OR and talk about random things to us with a wide grin ear-to-ear like nothing happened!! LOL!! me and my colleague just look at each other trying not to laugh or not to show our "amazement" at his bizarre behavior.
FYI: He just came back from a week vacation, whew!! LOL!! :)
